lasts...

Over Christmas break I received an email from someone that was describing our child's lasts.  We often get excited about our children's firsts, the first smile, first laugh, first word, first crawl, etc. that we often forget their lasts.  For instance the last time they slept in the bassinet, the last time they used the baby swing, the baby bathtub etc.  It really opened my eyes that yet we encourage them to take their firsts, we also need to cherish the now.  Wow!  Time is really short so we need to make sure we savor every moment.  This weekend my goal was to tidy up some closets and to put some things away in storage.  I ended up having to put several of Garrett's baby things that he no longer needs away.  Once again I was reminded of how fast he is growing!  As I was packing it up and "cramming" it in storage my memory was flooded with the good times we have had with the things that were being packed up. Here are just a few of my memories with each.

~snap and go - We got the snap and go for our first family vacation.  It folds up nice and neat, it's light, and you literally "snap" his car seat in and go!  We thought it would be so much easier to travel with to Florida.  It was great!  It has a big basket to fit all of the essentials...and plus it's great to have when you're shopping :)

~Froggy bathtub - The second grade teachers at school gave us this and it made bath time so easy when he was itty bitty.  It has a sling that can sit in the tub or it can be taken out of the tub.  I just can't believe Garrett is able to sit up and play with his bath toys in the big bath tub.  Aren't they always suppose to fit in this baby tub?!?

~Travel Swing - This swing was a lifesaver!  Thanks Beth!  I can remember the day that we decided would be his last day in the swing.  We thought that when he decided to lean forward and grab the red tree frog that his swinging days were over.  Now we'll just have to take him to the park to swing.

~Bassinet from the pack in play - This cute little bassinet came with the pack in play.  Which I am so grateful for, several ladies from church came together and got it for us.  Garrett slept in the bassinet part of the pack in play for his first four weeks.  This made it easier to take care of him during the night.  We still use the pack in play often while we are in the basement.  He loves playing with his toys until he realizes we're not with him :)

~Ocean Mat - I remember Garrett growing with this mat.  At first he would just lay there staring at the octopus hanging and then eventually reaching and pulling it.  Just a few weeks ago I realized that this huge toy was not of much interest to him anymore.  One day I was watching him play and it was almost as if he was thinking...do I climb over the bars or crawl under cause I really want the toys over there.  Tom and I just looked at each other and said I guess we should put his mat up.  It was kind of sad to think that he's out growing his baby toys!

~Tummy time mat - At first this mat was not Garrett's favorite, he did not like lying on his tummy he preferred to lay on his back.  Eventually he came around and liked laying on the mat and playing with the toys attached to the little pillow.

You never really understand when people tell you that kids grow way to fast until you have your own.  I can not believe how much Garrett has grown and changed since we brought him home almost 9 months ago.  We just LOVE him so much!  Here's to cherishing every moment!
