Florida 2011

We were getting a little cabin fever...so we decided to go on a quick little trip to Florida for a part of my spring break.  We had the best time ever!  This time we tackled the drive to Florida.  Our trip started on Friday night and we drove until we got to Georgia and then Saturday morning we got up and headed to Jacksonville to visit some of our cousins - the Tew's.  We love visiting them plus Garrett even got a "free" 1 year check over by Rhonda - our family pediatrician! :) That afternoon we got to see our Sarah perform in her last Spring piano recital.  I was surprised Garrett did pretty well through the hour long recital.  Thank goodness we had the "special" seats in the sun room so Garrett could romp around during the recital.  Every time Sarah went up to play Garrett seemed to think that it was time for him to sing.  It was quite entertaining to say the least.  Every time we go and visit the Tew's we always have to eat Sonny's BBQ.  The BEST BBQ ever! (other than my brother-in-law, Jimmy's beef brisket!)  So that evening we headed to our favorite Sonny's for some good ol' BBQ.  Yumm-o!

This visit with the Tew's was our third visit and we have made a tradition...eat at Sonny's come home and watch a great Lifetime movie!  I know it sounds silly but we ALL look forward to it!  Even though some wouldn't admit it but we do :) Sarah picked out the movie this time and it wasn't a Lifetime movie but a Hallmark movie...needless to say it wasn't up to the Lifetime standards but it got us all around the TV enjoying time together.

Sunday morning Doug fixed us an awesome French toast breakfast and then he took us out on his Hobie cat for a nice morning ride on Lake Jackson.  It was a nice ride on the water - still a little chilly but very relaxing.  That afternoon we made our way to Daytona Beach.  With a short drop at the outlets in St. Augustine...of course!

Monday we decided to make this day a pool day.  We made our way down to the pool and "camped" out for the morning.  Garrett even enjoyed a nap poolside...which we were thankful for the time to layout and relax.  The pool was still a little chilly but Garrett didn't seem to mind much.  He still had a blast splashing in the water.

After lunch we decided to try out the beach for the first time since Garrett was 3 months old.  We set Garrett in his tent and got out his beach toys and he knew exactly what to do with the shovel he just started digging.  It was so adorable.  He loved playing in the sand.  He also discovered a new snack...SAND!  I think that afternoon he ate several handfuls of sand!

That evening we headed over to Inlet  Point for dinner.  We all enjoyed a fantastic dinner of fish and chips!

Since Garrett really enjoyed the beach yesterday afternoon we decided to stay at the beach all day on Tuesday.  It was a lot easier to have Garrett on the beach than at the pool.  Garrett was able to crawl all over the place (well within reason) on the beach.  He just loved playing in the sand and with his new beach toys.  After lunch we took him for a little stroll on the beach and he went fast asleep.  He slept for quite a bit on the beach...I guess the sound of the ocean was very relaxing.  We ventured out the to ocean for a few dips.  The water was just a little chilly but refreshing from the warm sun.  We all loved our beach time together and were pretty sad to have it end.

Wednesday morning we headed back home.  I was a little nervous to see how Garrett would do on our long journey home.  We stopped a few times to get out and stretch, eat, and walk.  We stopped in South Carolina at a rest stop and just let Garrett crawl around and stretch out his legs.  Recently Garrett would "help" you by taking his hands out of the car seat straps as you were getting him out of the car seat...well I think Garrett had a breaking point on this trip.  He decided to take his arms out of the straps as we were going down the highway!  Wow!  was that a little scary...but we made it safely to the next stop and took a break.  Luckily after dinner Garrett went to sleep and it was smooth driving from then on.  :)

We just love going on trips together.  I love watching Garrett experience the world with us!  Looking forward to our next trip!
