~ SuRpRiSe ~

Almost two weeks ago Tom surprised me with a weekend trip to Alexandria for our Anniversary. I love surprises and whenever he plans a surprise for me it fills my love tank ;). We love going to DC and just recently we were talking about zoos and things we liked about going to the zoo when we were little. He had never been to the Washington zoo so he decided to make a weekend trip out of it.

We started our weekend right with a nice dinner at one of our favorite restaurants...The Warehouse Bar and Grill. This was our third time eating there and their steaks are so delicious we always order the same thing!

Saturday we were planning on going to the zoo but it rained. No worries though we made it to Potomac Mills for a little bit of shopping. We seemed to find a few good deals which is always nice. :) It's funny to people watch when you go to any mall and you can always tell when it gets to be around 4:00 because all the children seem to get cranky because they have been dragged to so many uninteresting stores and didn't quite get to make to the super Lego store or whatever store they wanted to go to. We saw a few little boys melt down because they didn't get to go in the store they wanted...all I kept thinking about was one of these days that will be us! haha

The Potomac River

That night Alexandria was celebrating its' birthday. Our hotel was right by the Potomac River and the town of Alexandria had a firework show. The fireworks were great. They were so close it was unbelievable and to top it off Garrett slept through the whole thing. The funniest thing is that Garrett can sleep through a 20 minute firework show but as soon as Tom and I start talking he wakes up!

Sunday was our zoo day. We got up and took Garrett on his first Metro ride into the city. We strolled to the park entrance and began our quest to find our favorite animals. We started out with the cheetah and made our way to the small mammal house where we saw some cute little animals. Tom's favorite was the Golden Lion Tamarin. They were pretty cute! Growing up the Panda bears were my favorite. I even remember doing a report on them and my mom even called the zoo to find out what the pandas loved to eat and what they did during the day. Of course Garrett slept through most of our zoo trip but we will have plenty of time to take him when he gets a little bit older.

Garrett's Metro Ride

Garrett is becoming a great trip taker. Whether it's in a car, stroller, boat, or metro car he does wonderful. In just a week or so we will see how he does on an airplane. Looking forward to going to Florida!
