On our last day we decided to take a tour of old San Juan before catching our afternoon flight home. This was the perfect ending to a perfect trip. We started our walking tour of the city with just a glimpse of El Morro in the background. Our tour guide was pointing out details of the roads and buildings from long ago.
We got to tour the "White House," Casa Blanca, where Ponce Deleon's son lived. They had made secret tunnels that connected to different places around town including El Morro. The views were quite impressive along with the architecture.
As we traveled through the city we kept seeing lots and lots of cats. Little did we know that most of the cats we saw belonged to the city. From long ago cats were seen as the guardians of the city, so the city continues to take care of the cats. They mark the city cats to try to keep a record of them. On our tour we even got to see the city's "cat ladies." They traveled in a golf cart type vehicle filled with cat food to deliver to special places.
The main highlight of the tour was visiting El Morro. The old fort was pretty amazing to see to and to get an idea of how people from long ago protected their country.
Our walking tour concluding with a short walk through the "new" San Juan where the high end shops were. On our way back we saw this super huge caterpillar. Check him out!
